2018 – Holy Spirit Breakthrough
(2 Samuel 5:17-20 NKJV) Now when the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, all the Philistines went up to search for David. And David heard of it and went down to the stronghold. (18) The Philistines also went and deployed themselves in the Valley of Rephaim. (19) So David inquired of the Lord, saying, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will You deliver them into my hand?” And the Lord said to David, “Go up, for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into your hand.” (20) So David went to Baal Perazim, and David defeated them there; and he said, “The Lord has broken through my enemies before me, like a breakthrough of water.” Therefore he called the name of that place Baal Perazim.
In this short story – 3 things.
1.David is anointed
-to smear (house with paint, shield with oil, unleavened cakes with oil)
-of kings – consecrated for service (oil poured on head).
-of Prophets – Elisha by Elijah.
-of priests. sacred things.
2.David receives a new Promise
-I’ll give the victory into YOUR hands. A personal word. A specific word.
-A ‘now’ (rhema) word.
3.David experiences God as “The Lord of the Breakthroughs”
-Hebrews: ‘parats’ – breakthrough, breakout, bursting forth of water
-Translated in other passages: Became prosperous, break forth, “breaker”, breaking away (out of captivity), breaks through (of walls) increase, overflow, spread out, spread abroad.
A few examples:
1.Breakthrough over enemies
(Amos 4:3a NET) Each of you will go straight through the gaps in the walls;
2.Sudden increase of generations
-Like dust and spread out (parats).
(Genesis 28:14 NLT) Your descendants will be as numerous as the dust of the earth! They will spread out in all directions—to the west and the east, to the north and the south. And all the families of the earth will be blessed through you and your descendants.
-Tamar – twins – waters breaking – from the womb.
(Genesis 38:28 NIV) As she was giving birth, one of them put out his hand; so the midwife took a scarlet thread and tied it on his wrist and said, “This one came out first.
3.Spreading the Word widely
-David calling out for reinforcements. “let us send word’.
(1 Chronicles 13:2 NET) David said to the whole Israelite assembly, “If you so desire and the LORD our God approves, let’s spread the word to our brothers who remain in all the regions of Israel, and to the priests and Levites in their cities, so they may join us.
4.Sudden increase in fruitfulness
(Proverbs 3:9-10 NETS) Honour the Lord with your just labours, and give him the first of your fruits of righteousness: that your storehouses may be completely filled with the corn, and that your presses may burst forth with wine.
5.Breaking out of enclosure or current containment
(Micah 2:13 Jubilee) “The breaker shall go up before them; they shall break through and pass through the gate and go out by it; and their king shall pass before them, the LORD at the head of them”.
‘Stand still and see the victory of our God’
(1 Samuel 12:16 NIV) Now then, stand still and see this great thing the Lord is about to do before your eyes!
“THE breaker” is JESUS!
(Romans 14:9 NLT) Christ died and rose again for this very purpose—to be Lord both of the living and of the dead.
(1 John 3:8b NLT) But the Son of God came to destroy the works of the devil.
We participate in his breakthroughs too
(Romans 8:11 NLT) The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.
(Matthew 6:9-10 NIV) This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, (10) your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
