The Exchange: Barabbas and Jesus
(Luke 23-17-21 NIV) But the whole crowd shouted, “Away with this man! Release Barabbas to us!” (19) (Barabbas had been thrown into prison for an insurrection in the city, and for murder.) (20) Wanting to release Jesus, Pilate appealed to them again. (21) But they kept shouting, “Crucify him! Crucify him!”
(Luke23:24-25 NIV) So Pilate decided to grant their demand. (25) He released the man who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, the one they asked for, and surrendered Jesus to their will.
The Exchange: Me, You, and Jesus
(Romans 5:7-9 NIV) Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. (8) But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (9) Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him!
(1Peter 2:24 NLT) He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you are healed.
(John19:30 ERV) When he tasted the wine, he said, “It is finished.” Then he bowed his head and died.
